When I was at Takashimaya in New York a couple weeks ago I stumbled across a wonderful picture book: Botanica by Howard Schatz. Shatz has taken tight floral portraits and then radically altered the colors. This results in pictures that seem both natural and unreal. Psychedelic is the word that comes to mind.
Seeing the work of other artists often inspires me. I’m going to try this on some of my pictures. I suspect the results will not be well received as healing art, but I think it will be fun.
When I first started working with Photoshop 20-years ago I often did goofy things with images. As time passed the adjustments I made to images became much more subtle. Time to revisit goofy alterations like the ones in this book and see what I can come up with.
