The most exciting new art that I saw at the Healthcare Design Conference this week was a video display by the Sky Factory called eScape. Looking through the casement window in their booth made my jaw drop. The high definition video and sound created a convincing illusion; I could believe I was in a room looking out at a beautiful landscape.
I asked Mark Petrick about it. He said that the full package costs about $10,000 each. That includes the “window”, the video and sound gear and several hours of programing. That price may be too high to put it in every patient room now, but with the the exponential growth in technology, the price is certain to drop over the next few years. I think the potential for this in healthcare is huge. You have to see it to believe it.
