Arts & Health Organization Shuts Down

Arts & Health Organization Shuts Down

I just got an email informing me that The Global Alliance for Arts & Health has gone out of business. I’ll miss them! They were the major organization for anyone concerned with using art in healing environments. They used to be known as the Society for Art in Healthcare. I’m not sure why they closed. I’m also… Read More

Can the Design of Hospitals Help Patients Recover Faster?

Can the Design of Hospitals Help Patients Recover Faster?

There is a lot of evidence to support that idea that a properly designed hospital can contribute to patient recovery. Even though the Center for Health Design has been promoting this idea since 1993 many people are still surprised when they learn about it. Fortunately new articles keep coming out to explain Evidence-based Design. Lucy… Read More

EDAC Certification Today

EDAC Certification Today

I’m seeing more and more art consultants and healthcare designers listing themselves as EDAC Certified. EDAC is The Center for Health Design’s program that awards credentials to individuals who can demonstrate that they know how to apply an evidence-based design (EBD) process in healthcare.  That means understanding some of the research behind EBD and being able… Read More

The full article was published in April 2010 issue of World Health Design (PDF). Here is the text of the article: 4… Read More

Web_Henry-Domke_3123Why This Blog?

I started this blog several years ago to learn more from experts about using art in healthcare. It became the basis for my book "Picture of Health: Handbook for Healthcare Art." The intended audience includes interior designers, art consultants, architects, framers, hospital staff and artists. As a doctor, I know what stressful places hospitals can be. Hopefully the blog will help us all create more comforting, healing places.
