4 Key Ideas for Art in Healthcare

4 Key Ideas for Art in Healthcare

I wrote an article for World Health Design that I thought might be useful to share. I tried to condense what I have learned about the use of art in healthcare into 4 key points. The full article was published in April 2010 issue of World Health Design (PDF). Here is the text of the article: 4… Read More

Top Ten Wish List for Art Research

Top Ten Wish List for Art Research

Research into Evidence-based art has given us a few guidelines on how to best select art for the healing environment; but there is a tremendous amount we don’t know. I wrote down a wish list of things I would like to know more about on a previous blog post. Peter Kitchel emailed me today offering… Read More

Showcasing children’s artwork

Showcasing children’s artwork

Donna Arcara’s email today about her recent installation of children’s art is worth sharing. Perhaps it will inspire others: A friend and I started a business last February, called Big Art Blessings, that specializes in showcasing children’s artwork.  We were two stay-at-home moms who wanted to find a way to celebrate children’s artwork instead of… Read More

I learned from their website that they use a… Read More

Web_Henry-Domke_3123Why This Blog?

I started this blog several years ago to learn more from experts about using art in healthcare. It became the basis for my book "Picture of Health: Handbook for Healthcare Art." The intended audience includes interior designers, art consultants, architects, framers, hospital staff and artists. As a doctor, I know what stressful places hospitals can be. Hopefully the blog will help us all create more comforting, healing places.
