New books on art in healthcare

New books on art in healthcare

I started this blog over two years ago because I could not find any books that discussed how to use art in healthcare. That has just changed with the upcoming release of two new books: “Transforming the Healthcare Experience through the Arts” by Blair Sadler & Annette Ridenour and “Becoming A Corporate Art Consultant” by… Read More

Take it, it’s good for you!

Take it, it’s good for you!

Kids used to be forced to take Cod Liver oil because it’s good for you. It has been described as having the intense and obnoxious odor of rotten fish and rancid oil. Sometimes I think connoisseur’s are doing the same thing when they make the general public look at art they don’t like. They feel it is… Read More

The physiological pathways responsible… Read More

Virtual Music Therapy

Virtual Music Therapy

I’ve been a bit preoccupied by music the last few weeks so the movie we watched tonight fit right in. It was Immortal Beloved (1994) with Gary Oldman playing Beethoven. Oldman does a great job of showing the torture of going deaf and the movie lets you get in his head and experience it with him.… Read More

Web_Henry-Domke_3123Why This Blog?

I started this blog several years ago to learn more from experts about using art in healthcare. It became the basis for my book "Picture of Health: Handbook for Healthcare Art." The intended audience includes interior designers, art consultants, architects, framers, hospital staff and artists. As a doctor, I know what stressful places hospitals can be. Hopefully the blog will help us all create more comforting, healing places.
